A Visit From Uncle Sam

Last weekend, my brother-in-law visited from NYC, which was a great excuse to try the left-handed yanagi knife my friend had gotten me from Japan. Despite being left-handed, I could only find affordable right-handed yanagi knives, so I’ve gotten used to slicing fish right-handed. The learning curve wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, though I definitely need more practice.

I got fish from www.mpsgroceries.com. I made my go-to assortment of salmon, bluefin tuna, and yellowtail nigiri, along with some sesame spicy salmon rolls.

Overall, they came out pretty nice. I bought way too much fish, so some of the salmon ended up being cooked a couple days later. I also seared a block of tuna after I ran out of rice and didn’t feel like making more. C'est la vie.
